Industrial wastewater varies by sector, raw material and production schedule. Treatment should therefore be based on sampling data, hydraulic load and the required discharge or reuse target.
Characterization and flow equalization
Design inputs should cover average and peak flow, batch discharge, organic load, suspended solids, nutrients, metals and pH variability. Equalization protects downstream processes from shock loads.

A treatment train may combine screening, oil separation, physical-chemical treatment, biological processes, clarification, membrane filtration and disinfection.
